2017 saw the creation of a new Fire Management and Policy Officer position.
The role was formed in partnership with the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) to help bring together all parties interested and involved in fire management and policy in South Australia.
The focus for the first six months has been to support the Conservation SA nominees on the State Bushfire Coordination Committee (SBCC) and the regional Bushfire Management Committees (BMCs). A workshop for the current nominees was held in April that addressed current issues and looked at ways of making the roles of a Conservation SA nominee more effective.
Working with DEW Fire and Flood staff, Conservation SA has helped develop a process to enable community members to nominate environmental assets at risk from bushfire for inclusion into the regional Bushfire Management Area Plans.
