In 2018 it was announced that Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) – an industrial process involves setting fire to buried coal to extract gas – would be trialled at Leigh Creek in SA's north.

UCG went horribly wrong in Queensland two years before, contaminating hundreds of square kilometres of the Darling Downs with harmful gases in an event the then Queensland Environment Minister Steven Miles described as 'the biggest pollution event probably in Queensland's history.'

Traditional Owner communities and environment experts share grave concerns about plans to use this dangerous gas technology in our state's north.
